eBooks Update – Latest from Finland and the United Kingdom

Torsdag 12. juni 2025, at 12:00 – 13:00
Zoom

Complementing the presentation of the Knowledge Rights 21 report on Secure Digital Lending, join our webinar on 12 June to learn about exciting new developments in efforts to ensure that libraries can realise the potential of eBooks to serve their communities.

The Webinar

The emergence of eBooks has created exciting new possibilities for libraries to provide access to knowledge for their communities. However, laws have not always kept up, leaving libraries – too often – with limited access under restrictive terms.

But change is possible!

From data collection and advocacy to the development of library-owned platforms, libraries across Europe and globally are finding ways to make eBooks laws and markets work better.

This webinar will hear from leading players in Finland and the United Kingdom. They will be providing insights you can use in your own work and advocacy.

Anna Tuomikoski will be sharing lessons from the first year of Finland’s library-owned national eBook platform. Have library patrons been using it? How easy has it been to secure content? What have we learned? What’s on the horizon?

Caroline Ball will provide an update on advocacy efforts to offer a better deal for libraries in the United Kingdom, including both recent research publications and engagement with members of parliament. What are the priority arguments? What are the blockages? What are the next steps?

Join if you want to:

  • Learn about practical experiences of developing library-owned platforms
  • Understand more about evolving academic eBook library markets
  • Become familiar with new advocacy resources and usable evidence
